New Games to anticipate! New Suikoden and God Eater 2

I am very much excited after hearing some of the games I love will have another kick for next year. At the recent Tokyo Game Show 2011, Konami announced a new Suikoden game and Namco Bandai announced a sequel for God Eater Burst still under working title of God Eater 2. Both games will be release for the PSP, which is a big plus for me since I'm more in playing PSP games.

First of, Suikoden... finally, they made a new Suikoden game! I've been waiting for ages for this! If you guys didn't know, I love the Suikoden series. It's one of my all-time favorite RPG back in the Playstation days. I just love how the gameplay and story were made in the game.

The new Suikoden is titled Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki or in English, translated as Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century. The subtitle doesn't make sense for now. At this point, there weren't any official gameplay footage revealed except for the teaser trailer that only shows an Anime clip. Another thing is, this new Suikoden game is probably be a different series than the original.

god eater 2 working title

Next is God Eater 2.. I played the first and I really like it. I always thought that there will be a potential sequel for this game... and here it is! The most notable here coming from the teaser trailer is that the visual design is totally change to be more like on par with Final Fantasy Type-O's design. There's no official gameplay footage on this yet but there were some images already shown. Base on the trailer and photos alone, GE2 introduces a new Aragami monster and 2 new weapons, a Charge Spear and Burst Hammer as what they have called it. The premise of the story is also revealed: the story sets 3 years after the first game and it will focus to a certain group of God Eaters named Blood.

Both Suikoden and God Eater 2 is scheduled to be release next year. Nothing much to say about it for now but I'm very much happy in the news. My only hope though is that these titles will be localized for US release in the future. For now, I'll keep tabs on this games.

Until then!

God Eater Burst / God Arc Weapon Review Part 2 Final

Sakuya.. and her BIG gun >=D
When I'm playing Action RPG such as Monster Hunter or God Eater and they have a variety of weapons to choose, I always like choosing any melee weapons especially swords. I'm not really fond of using any ranged-type of weapons. In GE's case, you are fix to use a sword and a gun. Although you're free to choose whatever you want to use in battle, you will come to the point that you will have to use them both. As for me, I'm force to use the God Arc's Gun form at some point, but its not that I don't entirely like it. Since the game encourage you to be versatile, being trigger happy sometimes can't be half bad, I guess. And to be fair, there are lots of things you can do in Gun form other than just blasting Aragami's.

With Gun form, you're able to equip various bullets at your disposal. Firing bullets are done by pressing either Square or Triangle button (Depends on where you set the bullets). Bullets can be set either by in the menu options by pressing Start button and choose the option for bullets or in-battle by holding either Square or Triangle button (Again, depends which button you want to set the bullet) then scroll left and right using L or R button to choose bullets available to you.

Most of the bullets are elemental-based so it’s advantageous to use one especially against Aragami's with specific elemental traits. There even bullets specifically for healing comrades in battle. Gun form consumes OP (Oracle points), the stronger the bullet you're using, the larger the OP consumes. If run-out of OP, it can refill for every melee attack (Sword form) connects.

Once in Burst mode, Gun form's capabilities extends and you can able to adapt Aragami's abilities you have bitten and use it as bullets for your gun. The added Aragami ability is usually set on Triangle button overlapping the bullets that was set there but you can always switch it if you like. You can even share your Burst to other comrades (Burst Link) by pressing R and Triangle button while facing to the direction of your comrade (You'll notice a triangle indicator serves as a lock-on Burst link for comrades).

Just like I mentioned the last time, both Sword and Gun form have its own set of types to choose. Gun form also has 3 types. Basically, you can equip any types of bullets to any types of gun BUT the effects of the bullets can be enhance when equipping specific gun-type fit for it. I wasn’t actually aware of this difference until recently. Thanks to my buddies Raipo and Homer for pointing me this. ;)

used a custom bullets. 3 directional homing laser!

Sniper type. Sniper-type gun enhances piercing damage. Probably the most balance gun-type you could use because most types of bullets works well in this type since most bullets have pierce attributes. One good example for it is the Laser bullet.

it doesn't look that fast but its definitely faster than sniper and blast

Assault type. Assault-type gun enhances the firing speed of the bullet. Just like Sniper-type, most bullets works well in this type only enhances its firing speed. It’s easy to say that this type is probably the most offensive because of its quick shots but the damage per shot is actually weaker compare to Sniper-type or even compare to Blast-type.

bang! Bang! BANG! XD ... wait. where do i heard of that...
Blast type. Blast-type gun enhances crushing damage so this type works well to any bullets with exploding effect like bombs and mortars. The type is best describe as a grenade launcher. Compare to other 2 types, Blast-type's firing speed is slower.

Once you get a clear idea on what gun-type is best at and what bullet is best use at, its pretty much self-explain on how would you use your bullets and what kind of gun you would prefer to use. The only thing that might complicate it is the bullet customization... and sorry, we won't get to that part for now. (^^)”

And that concludes my God Arc review. Hope it helps a bit. I would still make another review for GEB and it will be a general review for the game but I won't probably be working on it for now and I actually plan to save that article for my other blog page. For now, I'll leave this to you and I hope you enjoyed it.

Until then!

PS: If ever any of you read my other reviews regarding Monster Hunter Portable 3rd's Weapons and you're wondering what happen because I haven't continued it, I'm still working on it, don't worry. It just that I got too busy on stuffs and my mind slips (again).
Though I could work on it already but since its been a while now and I'm thinking of a right moment to work and post it. You might not going to see it for a while but I'll definitely going to finish it. For now, I hope you would still enjoy dropping by. Thanks!

God Eater Burst / God Arc Weapon Review Part 1

I've been playing God Eater Burst for some time now and I'm enjoying it. I actually played the Japanese version first but that was kinda my prototype play only to try out how the battle system works. I even wrote my First Impression Review about it before. Now that I finally get to understand the game system at full, there are things I didn't quite covered the last time especially how its “double-faced” weapon's – the God Arc feature works.

So let me re-evaluate as I tackle again another review for God Eater focusing to its weapon's feature. Treat this as my updated review for GE... a second impression review, I guess (><)

God Arc is the main weapon wield by God Eaters in the game. Capable of changing from sword-type to gun-type or vice versa. While in Sword form it can also launch a Shield to block attacks by pressing R and Circle button. It can also assume another form called Predator form by holding Triangle button to charge up and release it in time. Predator is use to bite-off Aragami's to absorbs its abilities and temporarily go in Burst mode. You can also launch a quick Predator attack while doing a combo by pressing R and Triangle button after 1 or 2 attacks (Depends on the sword you're using). Predator is also use to harvest materials from Aragami once it was beaten.

Sword and Gun form have its own set of types to choose. Depending in your preferred play style each has its 3 types. For this article, let's start off with Sword form:

Short type. The most basic sword type. It's short and it only deals fair amount of damage yet it gives you more speed and maneuver. Because of its lightweight trait, performing a combo is its strong point. More of it, short-type sword is where you can only do Advanced Step (You can step/dash much quicker while attacking) and Advanced Jump (You can jump much quicker while attacking)

Long type. The Long-type sword is probably the most balance among the 3 types. Having decent deal of damage and maneuver. It's the only sword type that can perform Impulse Edge where it does a short shot attack by pressing R Button and Square Button. It's kinda like a quick gun form maneuver and it also consumes OP (Oracle points used by Gun form as bullets)

Buster type. Buster-type sword is the hard-hitter among the 3 types. Wielding a big sword, you're pretty much slow and lacks maneuver but deals much greater damage than any other sword types. Buster-type is the only sword type that can do Charge Crush attack where you can charge-up your sword by holding Square button and release it in time for much powerful damage (If you're familiar with Monster Hunter's Great Sword, its a similar trait) More of it, Buster-type sword is where you only do Advanced Guard (You can switch to Shield much quicker while attacking)

So that's pretty much the basic stuffs for God Arc's Sword form. We'll going to cover the Gun form on my next article. Hope you enjoy the article!

Until then!

Quick Share / God Eater Promotional Anime Prequel

Its a short Anime video of God Eater for the purpose of promoting the game itself.

These video was actually already been around the Internet even before the official US release and yes in my last God Eater article, I posted the same video with fan subbed  but this time, it got its official subtitles and here it is.

The short clip is about the events that happened before the main game. It gives little insight on the background story and some of the characters that will play a big role in the main game. At the end of the video, a message was shown Your Story Begins from Here meaning that the next story, particularly in the game will greatly involves the player itself.

God Eater / Story Begins...

God Eater was first released at Japan on February 4, 2010 and was developed and published by Namco Bandai Japan. Initially, God Eater was set for US release sometime at third quarter of 2010 with expanded features and updates and renamed God Eater Burst. But the scheduled release was cancelled and decided to release it locally for Japan again on October 28, 2010. The plan for US release is move next year on March 8, 2011.

A short anime clip was shown for the promotion of the game. The short clip is about the events that happened before the game. It gives little insight on the background story and some of the characters that will play a big role in the main game. At the end of the video, a message was shown; Your Story Begins from Here meaning that the next story, particularly in the game will greatly involves the player itself.

The game’s story takes place roughly around year 2070. The Earth is overrun by creatures called Aragami killing almost all human races resulting for Earth becoming almost nearly a dead planet. An organization named Fenrir is formed to fight against the Aragami’s using weapons called Jinki (God Arcs as what its translated) that were created mainly for fighting Aragami’s. People wielding these weapons are called God Eater.

The story focuses on six leading characters including the player itself. The main player (You) and Kouta are newest recruits of Fenrir Far Eastern branch. From there they join up with the team consist of veteran members, Soma, Sakuya and Rindou, the leader of the team. Later on, they are added by another member, Alisa, who transferred from Russian branch.

God Eater basically tells a story of human survival towards an apocalyptic and hopeless world. First thing that came up in my mind upon understanding a bit of the story was like the world here is about to come to an end and everything that had happened (the appearance of monsters) was a divine punishment... kinda like in the Anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion where giant humanoids that were actually Angels came down to destroy mankind but humans doesn’t accept it the reason they’re fighting back. God Eater’s story setting is almost like that in the sense and to think that the Aragami’s are named after names of mythological Gods. But the back story and origins of the monsters is still very much unclear.. whether if there are divine creatures sent by God to impose judgment, or if they’re actually aliens came to conquer or just human-made bio weapons that were accidentally expose. It’s still a mystery and it’s still yet to explain probably until the official US release.

Personally, the story is good and my impression can be better once I fully understand it as a whole. The story would be most likely deep since the game is really emphasizing a much deep and wide story-telling. The mood is pretty much in serious tone and would inject drama, in which it’s a plus for me since I like a story that way in this kind of setting. I really expect more in the development of God Eater’s story . That’s all I can say for now.

Until then!

UPDATE: God Eater Burst was already released since March 15, 2011
