God Eater was first released at Japan on February 4, 2010 and was developed and published by Namco Bandai Japan. Initially, God Eater was set for US release sometime at third quarter of 2010 with expanded features and updates and renamed God Eater Burst. But the scheduled release was cancelled and decided to release it locally for Japan again on October 28, 2010. The plan for US release is move next year on March 8, 2011.
A short anime clip was shown for the promotion of the game. The short clip is about the events that happened before the game. It gives little insight on the background story and some of the characters that will play a big role in the main game. At the end of the video, a message was shown; Your Story Begins from Here meaning that the next story, particularly in the game will greatly involves the player itself.
The story focuses on six leading characters including the player itself. The main player (You) and Kouta are newest recruits of Fenrir Far Eastern branch. From there they join up with the team consist of veteran members, Soma, Sakuya and Rindou, the leader of the team. Later on, they are added by another member, Alisa, who transferred from Russian branch.
God Eater basically tells a story of human survival towards an apocalyptic and hopeless world. First thing that came up in my mind upon understanding a bit of the story was like the world here is about to come to an end and everything that had happened (the appearance of monsters) was a divine punishment... kinda like in the Anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion where giant humanoids that were actually Angels came down to destroy mankind but humans doesn’t accept it the reason they’re fighting back. God Eater’s story setting is almost like that in the sense and to think that the Aragami’s are named after names of mythological Gods. But the back story and origins of the monsters is still very much unclear.. whether if there are divine creatures sent by God to impose judgment, or if they’re actually aliens came to conquer or just human-made bio weapons that were accidentally expose. It’s still a mystery and it’s still yet to explain probably until the official US release.
Personally, the story is good and my impression can be better once I fully understand it as a whole. The story would be most likely deep since the game is really emphasizing a much deep and wide story-telling. The mood is pretty much in serious tone and would inject drama, in which it’s a plus for me since I like a story that way in this kind of setting. I really expect more in the development of God Eater’s story . That’s all I can say for now.
Until then!
